Three legendary Jerry Garcia Band Shows: Kean College
he is so unique, sometimes it seems like an aural representation of geology, the moments when elements combine--u know what i mean
I was there, one of the best shows I ever saw. 12/26 was added late so the crowd was relatively small. Drove overnight from Portland, OR Xmas night to get to Oakland. Ironically, I grew up not far from that Auditorium.
Bob congratulated the Oakland Raiders on their playoff victory right before the show started. As a lifelong Raiders fan I was one of the who whooped when he said that.
There's no way there's any Jackstraw ever better than this one.
I had a copy of this one on cassette, maybe 1989, 1st year college
Doesn’t get a whole lot better than this
Had this tape since 1989, a top quality Aud, a favorite!
Always good. And are you planning a book? Hope so.
Taking a break from writing to podcast and pursue a few other things but I’m sure I’ll get the big to launch a new book project soon
@@Catfishgarcia82 Super! I just came from Amazon buying Deadology! MAGA Vet.
Great episode. What a show to have seen in person. Nice job Howie and David. NFA✌️
I was fresh out of high school in '84. This fills me with equal measures of joy and sadness as I remember truly better days.
The quintessential NFA! Jerry's tension and release, fluidity, phrasing are totally over the top! The buildup and crescendo reached at 8:40 is like no other!
The picture at 1:55 is one of my all time favorites. Bob and Jerry just in awe of Carlos’ majestic mane.
Great episode…. Enjoyed it a bunch. ✌️
I was lucky to see this masterpiece 3 times 2 electric 1 acoustic
Yo howie Another show I was happy to be at…..thanks for the show
Thank you. Super! Loved Your Tale of the Lost Luggage. Looking forward to next week. MAGA Dead Head Nam-Vet. FJB
Jerry is absolutely tearing it up. Outstanding Eyes here.
I really dig the Dupree's Diamond Blues from the "Move me Brightly" show. Best non Dead rendition I have heard. Just shows again what a once in a lifetime the Garcia/Hunter duo is/was. Jeff's keyboards are a nice touch and Donna sounds really good through the whole show. ua-cam.com/video/Bk3fDgkZmfI/v-deo.html
Heady says number one. Boys, listen and hear. Here lies the Keys to the Kingdom. Rev. Gary don't play.
Realy unreal
This and rockpalast in 81 are the best
Saratoga Springs NY - I was at this show. It was awesome the band played to the weather. Scarlet-Fire during a lightning storm. Fire! -(lightning crash)-On the Mountain! then when the rain stopped and the water was dripping off the trees and leaves they go into Morning Dew. Never forget the show. More I could say about the story but not sure good to comment on youtube lol..
Fantastic as always!!!
Dam that’s a smoker! Woooo🫡
These are great! I feel like you’re getting better with time. This was a great one and I prefer the ones where you’re the solo talker. Love the guests too - so much enthusiasm! Keep em coming
Thanks again man! Love the show recaps and stories, I was born in 89, wish I was born sooner lol
Thanks Howie, was this show at or near Action Park? I believe i was there ... for sure remember the rainy Saratoga show and the big deep woods.... Best to you and Doug!!!! please let him know i say hello ....
Awesome show.
This entire show is sublime! Check it out
I was there. I loved the jazz aspect of their jamming. Years later I learned they were influenced by the great John Coltrane.Nothing better than Dead ad Coltrane
I like the abridged bobby screatching into the microphone for 5 minutes of early examples of this song. I also appreciate Keith. This is a jam that works best with Jerry handling the solo alone. Brent would sometimes try to do to much with his fender rhodes but this was still very tasteful to the Vince Welnick who sounded like he was playing with the horn section effect on a cheap casio. Yes i know he was actually utilizing fairly expenive and cutting edge for the time midi digitial keyboards but no matter how authentic the effects sounded it was hard for it not t sound like a cheap synth.
Yeah this neary blew my mind when i read the title of the video- i was pretty confident mr. Saunders never sat in with tbe boys- that would be something else indeed, unfortunately this is a lot of Vince derailing what otherwise would of been an interesting and abstract jam. I cabt put all the blame on Vince. Supposedly he had no choice over the voice of the keyboard
This lies. Phil was never a woman at any point.
5:45
Classic show/performance. Had the bootleg since I was a teen in the '80s.
IWT
much like the Dead in '74, it was hard to beat a Celtics v Lakers game in the 80's...
My beloved husband TIM KOZE 1970 - 2024. ❤ 😢 You crazy Dead Head, I love you so much. May you RIP 🙏
Jerry was beardless at this concert.
Wow... awesome review and an outstanding commentary. This show is One For The Ages. Was Ned playing on some of this show.? The Whole Band is Fucking On Fire.... good Lord.
Absoultely fantastic! Thank you so much for these. And thank you, to all of you good folks who took the time to learn, record, and share this wondeful bands performances. So great!!
i was at that show - we nicknamed it mud mountain - the rain was unreal and leaving to go home we had to stop the car because the fog was so thick. a great show with seen with great people - glad i made the trip!
Epic.
The finest TWLWMYD! But you didn't talk much about it😂
great version I think I have it ranked #3 behind 5-31-83 and 11-10-81
@@Catfishgarcia82 Thanks for the dates, Howard. I'm gonna give them a listen and compare. I enjoyed your conversation with Peri, interesting to hear your interpretations of the music and the great stories.
Yep, the Roseland version is butter dripping off a hot biscuit.
What an awesome day !!!! It took 2 weeks to get the JGB tape..... 42 years to get the Bobby & the Midnites tapes !!! many funny memories getting home !!!
GwI'm wz The
My ALL time FAVORITE Pig Pen song... 😎👍
is Garcia playing that Strat on this song? I don't recall seeing that particular guitar before?
